Order Movement Management and TIS deployed in Cyprus

Last year the Cyprus Petroleum Refinery was shutdown in order to be converted to a terminal. Invensys was awarded the project which consisted of an I/A System and a TIS/OMM combination using the co-mingling feature of the offsites application suite.

Recently we asked Makis Prodromou, IT and Automation Manager at Cyprus Oil Terminal Ltd, if he would be so kind to provide us with a small article about his experience with the project. This is what he wrote:

"When it was decided to shut down the Cyprus Petroleum Refinery Ltd. and convert it into an imports Terminal, it was realized early on that a terminal automation solution was needed to manage the imports, storage in a co-mingled fashion and delivery to the Marketers of products. A major constrain was that only a few months were available for the project, since ours is the only major petroleum products installation in Cyprus and we needed to be back in operation quickly.

After evaluating systems from several vendors, eventually it was clear that the Invensys Offsites suite was the natural choice, not only because it satisfied most of our requirements, but also because it allowed us to keep and take advantage of our existing Invensys Foxboro DCS system. This, in addition to keeping our costs down, also allowed us to save precious time, since major parts of our DCS could be reused for monitoring and control of the new environment. Of course, our previous very positive experience with Invensys through the DCS, could only count as an extra incentive towards working again with Invensys.

From the start of the project, it was evident to us that we were working with professionals, who could understand well our needs and requirements and easily accommodate them. Even more important, was the sophistication and thoughtful design we discovered in the applications, which allowed the Invensys Offsites team to easily reconfigure the applications to match our unique requirements.

Professionalism, in-depth understanding of the field, excellent communication and cooperation, quick and on time turnaround on requests for changes, in addition to well designed and thorough applications were the main impressions from our interaction with the Invensys Offsites team. The end result was a smoothly functioning system, which allowed us to concentrate on the new operations of our company."
